Tourism activity has been one of the strategic economic areas since the nineties registering a steady growth in the arrival of tourists, based on two essential issues, first the scenic beauty of the environment and secondly scientific information, enhancing the idea of that when a tourist comes to observe a landscape and also finds trained people that can make him see things that at first sight are not appreciated, then their value is complemented, this coupled with the historical trajectory of being a country of peace, where people She feels calm when visiting him.

The sustainable tourism that is developed in this Caribbean country expresses the commitment of the government, the organizations and the community itself, with the sustainability and conservation of its natural resources, having as main objective, the integrity of the environment, the economic expansion and the social justice.

The Costa Rican Tourism Institute created the certification of tourism sustainability several years ago. He called the International Organization for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN), the University for Peace, the INBio, the Ministry of Environment, among others, to create a tool that would measure sustainability.

Beginning with the hotel sector, they then extended to evaluate the sustainability of cars and restaurants.
This certification measures activity in the style of the 5 stars of the hotel industry, but with 5 green leaves. The leaves certify the environmental sustainability part but also the relations with the local community. The certification is based on four areas: physical plant, relations with personnel and the community, environmental programs and social programs.

The growth of such tourism has far-reaching impacts and maintains a high level of satisfaction among tourists, while guaranteeing a significant experience.
